Plane Fax International Registry Services: Register My Airplane with the IR

Due to the nature of high performance aircraft and their ability to fly between many countries, the United States has joined the International Registry of Mobile Assets. This serves to be a central registry for recording liens on aircraft. You need to take part in this as any lien on the International Registry is enforceable.

When buying an aircraft you need to perform title searches on the International Registry as well as with the FAA’s domestic registry. There is a fee incurred for using the IR, but it is well advised that you register your interests on the aircraft.

Aircraft and Aircraft Engines Eligible for International Registry Recording:

  • Airframes that are type certificated to transport:
    • At least eight (8) persons including crew; or
    • Goods in excess of 2750 kilograms (6050 pounds)
  • Helicopters that are type certificated to transport:
    • At least five (5) persons including crew; or
    • Goods in excess of 450 kilograms (990 pounds)
  • Jet propulsion aircraft engines with at least 1750 pounds of thrust or its equivalent.
  • Turbine-powered or Piston-powered aircraft engines with at least 550 rated take-off horsepower or its equivalent.
